Canary Islands Information

The Canary Islands lie about seven hundred miles south west of mainland Spain and less than 100 miles from the coast of Africa.

The archipelago consists of seven major islands:

• Tenerife
• La Palma
• La Gomera
• El Hierro
• Gran Canaria
• Fuerteventura
• Lanzarote

Tenerife

Tenerife, the most magical of these 'Islands in the Sun', where Property Consultancy & Investment International is based, has a population of about 840,000, its capital being Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Tenerife is an island with a multiplicity of micro-climates, owing to the impact of Mount Teide that, at around twelve thousand feet, is the highest mountain in Spain.

Gran Canaria

Fuerteventura and Lanzarote belong to Gran Canaria and form the other province of the autonomous community.

The seven islands have a combined population of little less then two million. The islands have an autonomous government but remain, of course, a part of Spain.

The language is Spanish; the currency is the Euro and the laws are those of Spain; excepting some regional laws unique to the islands.
